A pilgrimage to the Shrine of the North American Martyrs in Auriesville, New York, is being organized by the National Coalition of Clergy and Laity for September 26-29. The Shrine marks the place where Ss. Isaac Jogues, Rene Goupil and John Lalande were martyred 365 years ago. According to the organizers, “It is conducted in public honor of Christ Our King, for the restoration of new Christendom, and in reparation for sins against the Immaculate Heart of Mary.”
The pilgrimage culminates on Saturday, September 29 with a beautiful Solemn High Mass celebrated according to the 1962 Missal in the immense shrine chapel.
Over one thousand pilgrims return for this annual event, now in its 12th year. For our family, the pilgrimage seems a fitting beginning to the new school year. Not to be missed while you are at the shrine is the sacred ravine where the body St. Rene Goupil was secretly buried by St. Isaac Jogues after he was martyred by the Mohawks.
The Shrine is about forty miles west of Albany, right off of the NY thruway. It overlooks the scenic Mohawk River valley.
The pictures posted here were taken at last year’s pilgrimage.
