Catholics! Part II

Posted by admin

The quirky, the touching and the magnificent – such is the exhibit “Catholics 1808-1946” at the Museum of the City of New York. I am surprised this show has not attracted more attention and commentary pro and con – here are some highlights…

Special vestments for the centenary celebration of the Archdiocese in 1908.

“Before the liturgical changes of the 1960s, all Catholic women covered their heads… .” The exhibit’s somewhat innacurate yet honest perpective on the pre-Vatican II world.

That was a crucifix…this is a scapular…and next is a holy card…

A halloween party for the members of a girls’ sodality at St. Ignatius Loyola church, ca. 1908. Let’s keep quiet about this – we wouldn’t want the SSPX folks at Angelqueen.com to get upset.
