A large crowd packed the downstairs chapel of St. Mary’s Church in Norwalk last evening in the sweltering heat to observe the 40th anniversary of the promulgation of Paul VI’s encyclical Humanae Vitae. The Votive Mass to the Sacred Heart of Jesus was celebrated by Fr. Gregory Markey according to the 1962 missal. The Mass was being offered in reparation for the wide-spread dissent by priests and laity that attended the promulgation of Humanae Vitae and for the numerous sacriligeous communions of Catholics practicing contraception. After Mass, Msgr. William Smith, professor of Moral Theology at St. Joseph Seminary of the Archdiocese of New York, addressed a large audience.
