Crucifix in Holy Innocents Church, New York.
On Sunday, September 14th at 5PM the Society will be sponsoring a Solemn High Mass for the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross at the Church of Our Saviour in New York. We will be marking the anniversary of the effective date of Summorum Pontificum and of the first liturgy sponsored by the Society at this church.
Just a brief glance over this blog reveals the scope of activity set free by Summorum Pontificum – the many and beautiful liturgies in the Traditional rite of the Roman Catholic church that are being celebrated at this time just in the greater New York area. We give thanks to God for this and ask his aid for the great work that remains to be done in making the Traditional liturgy much more widely available. We would urge as many as possible to attend this magnificent liturgy and show our love for the Traditional liturgy!
This feast also commemorates the recovery of the True Cross from the Persians by the Roman emperor Heraclius in 628. In the middle ages this war was reckoned as the first crusade. In this 12th century image Heraclius defeats Chosroes II, the Persian king.
