This Friday, 21 November at 7:00 p.m. there will be a solemn Vespers at St. Mary Church, Norwalk, CT, to mark the vigil of the feast of St. Cecilia, the patroness of music and musicians. The professional St. Mary’s Schola Cantorum will join with the volunteer St. Mary’s Choir to sing First Vespers of St. Cecilia’s Day, including the Magnificat Secundi Toni of Tomás Luis de Victoria. Immediately following, the Schola Cantorum will sing a short concert of works by Josquin, Hassler, Crecquillon, and Byrd. A reception will follow. This event will officially inaugurate the St. Cecilia Society, dedicated to the promotion of sacred music at St. Mary’s for the greater glory of God and the aedification of the faithful.
