Festive Observance of Candlemas This Sunday in New Haven

Posted by admin

On Sunday, February 7 at 2 pm a procession and Solemn Mass in observance of Candlemas will be celebrated by The Rev. John Ringley and sponsored by the St. Gregory Society at St. Stanislaus Church in New Haven, CT.

According to the Society’ website, “The service will be celebrated with special
pageantry and ceremony. A landmark occasion in the spiritual and cultural life of the Elm City, this event will be the first in a series of public functions marking the 25th Jubilee of the return of the traditional Latin Mass to our community offered in its age-old form. Sponsored by the Saint Gregory Society of New Haven, these services commenced at Sacred Heart Church in New Haven in January of 1986.”

Music for the service, performed by the Society’s Schola Cantorum, will include Palestrina’s “Missa Sicut lilium,” motets by Victoria, Palestrina and Lasso. All in attendance are invited to a reception which will immediately follow the Mass.
