Solemn Vespers at St. Mary’s Norwalk in Honor of the Beatifcation of John Henry Cardinal Newman

Posted by Stuart Chessman

On 19 September 2010 John Henry Cardinal Newman will be beatified in a ceremony presided over by Pope Benedict XVI in Birmingham, England. This is a great day for the Church. As part of the celebration of Cardinal Newman’s beatification, St Mary’s Church in Norwalk will have Solemn Vespers and Benediction in the Traditional Roman Rite (Extraordinary Form) at four o’clock in the afternoon on Sunday, September 19. This service will be followed by a lecture by Father Richard G. Cipolla, Parochial Vicar of St. Mary’s and our chaplain. entitled: Newman’s Biglietto Speech: Prophecy and Action for our Time. The Biglietto Speech was given by Newman upon the reception of his Cardinal’s hat in Rome. It is indeed a prophetic statement about the trials of the Church at the hands of Liberalism that has much to say to us today. All are welcome.
