We dropped in at Our Saviour’s this afternoon to see what was going on for ourselves. Regrettably I have no new information to convey. I couldn’t find a statement by Fr. Robbins explaining his actions in the now empty cases for literature in the vestibule. But, all too obviously, some of Ken Woo’s paintings have been removed for some reason as yet undisclosed:
(Above) Our Saviour in 2011.(Below) Our Saviour in 2007.
(Above) There have been various other changes here and there. I note the introduction of votive lights in the style – and at the prices- previously introduced at St Patrick’s Cathedral. For an increased price the worshipper – and God – gets a lot smaller candle.
(Above) The altar today. (Below) The altar in 2007 (By 2011 a crucifix had appeared on the altar as well). The alleged “Benedictine Arrangement” of which the NLM was previously so proud has also disappeared.
UPDATE:
We are informed on reliable authority that the removal of the icons is indeed permanent; others may follow.

Let’s see – Robert J. Robbins (I have a real problem putting Father before his name) has dropped the Latin Mass without prior notice to those who attended, dropped the numerous altar servers Fr. Rutler had, from which he had at least nine men go into seminaries and several already ordained, terminated without cause the CCD (children’s religious ed),and removed the crucifix from the altar. I was the CRE for 30 years. He also had us change catechisms from Faith & Life, which were described by the then Cardinal Radziger about 32 years ago as the most faithful to the Teaching Magisterium he had seen in many years to a mindless – and in some instances rather sacrilegious text series approved by the USCCB. I could go on. May God bless His church.
Note that the beautiful silver and bronze hanging lamps were also removed – shortly after Father Robbins arrived. He said they were taken out “for cleaning” but they disappeared. Also, much of the millions of dollars Father Rutler saved after paying off the vast debts and mortgage of the church, is being spent on a total rebuilding of the penthouse rectory in luxurious style – complete, one understands, with a large bar and other features.
