Masses for the Feast of the Purification on Feb. 2

The following churches will offer the Traditional Mass for the Feast of the Purification of Our Lady, Candelmas, on Tuesday, February 2.

St. Mary Church, Norwalk, CT, 6 pm, Solemn Mass, blessing of candles and procession
Prelude: Herr Gott, nun schleuß den Himmel auf (BWV 617) (Johann Sebastian Bach, 1685-1750)
At the blessing of candles: Lumen ad revelationem gentium (attrib. G.P. da Palestrina, c.1525-1594)
At the procession: Adorna thalamum (plainsong, mode vi), etc.
Missa de Beata Virgine à 5 (Cristóbal de Morales, c.1500-1553)
Gregorian Mass of Candlemas: Suscepimus, Deus
Motet at the Offertory: Hodie beata Virgo Maria (prima pars) (Nicolas Gombert, c.1495-c.1560)
Motet at the Communion: Responsum accepit Simeon (Hodie beata, secunda pars) (Gombert)
Postlude: Les enfants de Dieu (from La Nativité du Seigneur) (Olivier Messiaen, 1908-1992)

St. Anthony’s Church,  Monmouth St. between 6th and 7th, Jersey City, NJ
7:00 PM, Solemn High Mass
Palestrina’s Missa Brevis will be performed by the Cantantes in Cordibus choir (Simone Ferraresi, director)
Preceding the Mass will be the traditional blessing and procession of beeswax candles for the feast of the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
A social event for young adults will follow the Mass.
( The church parking lot is located on 6th St. between Coles and Monmouth Street and is easily accessible from the Grove Street PATH, the Newport PATH and Light Rail stop.)

Regina Pacis Chapel (Parish Center Chapel) at Our Lady Queen of Peace, Maywood, NJ, 6 pm.
Please bring your candle to be blessed.

St. Anthony of Padua Oratory, 1360 Pleasant Valley Way, West Orange, NJ
7:00 PM, Missa Cantata

Church of the Holy Innocents, New York, NY
Solemn Mass, 6:00 PM. blessing and distribution of candles, indoor procession. Attendees are encouraged to bring your own beeswax candles to be blessed for in-home devotional use.

Missa Cantata 7 pm, candlelight procession
