“CANTATE DOMINO CANTICUM NOVUM”

Posted by Stuart Chessman

A Statement on the Current Situation of Sacred Music.

It is a important document, with many remarkable signatures attached.

Of course, Pope Francis, in the most significant paragraph of an address he gave last week on the same occasion (the 50th anniversary of the Instruction Musicam Sacram), had already essentially rejected the recommendedations of the above Statement:

“To facilitate this process,” Pope Francis said, “we need to promote proper musical education, especially for those who are preparing to become priests – in dialogue with the musical trends of our time, with the demands of the different cultural areas, and with an ecumenical attitude.”
