From Ireland comes a “Strategic Plan” for the Irish Association of the Knights of Malta – incorporating views undoubtedly intended to please in Rome. It envisions the complete transformation of the Order of Malta into a secular charitable organization:
Also, it is vital that our Association should not be perceived as a haven for excessive religiosity, misogyny, puritanism or foppery. We need to emphasise that we are a pragmatic Christian-Humanitarian association of ladies and gentlemen who enjoy life and continue the tradition of nine centuries of impartial compassion and charitable service to the sick and the poor.
But the readers of this blog may be more interested in the liturgical aspects of the “Strategic Plan” :
The Novus Ordo Missae of Pope Paul VI (1970), is the form of the Holy Mass that most Catholics know and understand. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the Council and the chaplains to ensure that members and aspirants can fully and meaningfully participate in the Masses and other liturgies for the Association.
At least in Ireland, the experimentation by the Knights in recent years with the Traditional Mass will officially come to an end.
