Beyond the quiet sobbing in the pews at the imminent departure of this beloved, unique man was the sharp intake of breath upon the closing syllables of the poem. A lesson learned? A truth driven straight to the heart?
Friendship is, indeed, such an exquisite gift. I hope and pray that if there was a heart that needed to be moved, it was so moved. Friendship offered, friendship refused.
For anyone who has refused a singular opportunity at friendship with a man –or woman– the likes of which will not pass this way again, how dreadful for them. How infinitely, bitterly sad.
