On Wednesday, February 23rdat 7:30 pm, as part of the Wednesday Concert Series at St. Agnes Church in Manhattan, the Schola Cantorum, the professional choir of the church, presents a survey of the sacred Latin church music of Herbert Howells and Charles Stanford, two 20thcentury giants of the Anglican Church’s musical world. Howells wrote a setting of the Latin Mass Ordinary-Mass in the Dorian Mode-in 1912 for the Westmister Cathedral, the then recently-founded Roman Catholic Cathedral of London. As far as can be ascertained, this will be the first compete performance of the Mass in New York City.
Also on the program are Howells’ Nunc Dimittis and Regina Caeli as well as a trio of Latin Motets, Opus 38, written by Sir Charles Stanford.
The Choirmaster is James D. Wetzel. The concert has a suggested donation of $15 ($10 for students and seniors). For further information: http://www.stagneschurchnyc.org/?page_id=50
