The Catholic Artists Society, in conjunction with the New York Purgatorial Society, will sponsor a special Solemn Requiem Mass in the Extraordinary Form, on Thursday, November 29th at the Church of St. Agnes in New York City. The setting for the Mass will be Gabriel Faure’s Requiem (opus 48), sung by The Schola Cantorum of St. Agnes, led by organist and choirmaster James Wetzel. This is a rare chance to hear Faure’s beautifully soaring Requiem in its entirety, in the liturgical setting for which it was written.
This Mass will be offered for the repose of the souls of deceased family members, friends, colleagues and the Holy Souls in Purgatory. The celebrant and homilist for the Mass will be Father Justin Wylie (Archdiocese of Johannesburg, South Africa). Father Wylie is currently attaché to The Permanent Observer Mission of the Holy See to the United Nations.
The Catholic Artists Society is also sponsoring an evening of recollection at 7pm on Thursday, December 13th at The Church of St. Catherine of Siena, 411 E. 68th Street, Ny, NY. Father Jordan Kelly, OP, the parish pastor and an accomplished musician, will lead the recollection and will offer an Advent mediation on the work and spiritual life of the artist.
