Two Recitals This Weekend

Posted by Stuart Chessman

We call your attention to two recitals taking place this weekend by musicians connected with St. Mary Church in Norwalk, CT.

The first is tomorrow evening, Friday, April 25th, at 7:30 p.m. at St. Mary’s in Norwalk.  Judy Malafronte will be giving a recital of colorful and varied songs, with David Hughes on piano.  Schubert songs; a collection of French songs by Debussy, Satie, and Boulanger; and a cycle of Shakespeare songs by Quilter, Finzi, and Sondheim. Come for the recital, and a festive reception afterward.

The second recital is on Sunday afternoon, April 27th, at 5:00 p.m. at the Church of the Assumption in Ansonia. David Hughes in an organ recital, La Résurrection du Christ, for the Octave Day of Easter (including Tournemire’s suite from L’Orgue mystique for Quasimodo Sunday and the Easter selections from Messiaen’s towering Livre du Saint-Sacrement), with the corresponding chants sung by several men from the St. Mary’s Choir. Assumption is a magnificent church, with a colorful organ (a 1929 Midmer-Losh) that’s perfect for this repertoire. An elegant reception will follow in the church hall.
