It was a beautiful afternoon this past Saturday when St. Mary’s Church in Norwalk celebrated it’s patronal feast with a Solemn Mass within the Octave of the Assumption. The musical setting of the Mass was Mozart’s glorious “Sparrow’s Mass.” The church was honored with the presence of Bishop Frank Caggiano.

Bishop Caggiano kneels at the door of the church, waiting to be greeted by the pastor.

Acolytes bring a crucifix to present to the Bishop

Before Mass, the Bishop vests before his people.
After Mass, the congregation exits to escort the statue of Our Lady of Norwalk throught the neighborhood in procession.
At 6 pm, the procession pauses for the recitation of the Angelus.

Mother Dolores Hart
Lecture and Book Signing
September 23, 7:30 PM
Catholic Center, NYU
The Catholic Artists Society proudly presents Mother Dolores Hart, contemplative nun at the Benedictine Abbey of Regina Laudis in Bethlehem, Connecticut.
Mother Dolores left behind a brilliant career in Hollywood to join the monastery. By 1963, when she heard God’s call to her vocation, she had ten successful movies to her credit (including Francis of Assisi—see below), having shared the screen with Elvis Presley, Anthony Quinn, and Myrna Loy, among other notables. She had performed on television and on Broadway. For the latter she had earned a Tony nomination. But she knew the life of a contemplative was what God wanted for her.
Mother Dolores’ mission as an actress did not end, but rather took a contemplative turn. She believes film can be an artistic medium for spiritual growth. And she helps young people find their vocation in Christ through the medium of the theater. In 1986, she founded The Gary-The Olivia Theater, an open air theater at the Abbey.
Mother Dolores’s autobiography is entitled The Ear of the Heart: An Actress’ Journey from Hollywood to Holy Vows (2013). She is the recipient of two Honorary Doctorates: in Jurisprudence from Fairfield University and in Fine Arts from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. She is a voting member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences.
A book signing, reception, and sung Compline will follow the lecture. The Catholic Center at NYU is located at 238 Thompson Street, just south of Washington Square Park.

Canon Jean Marie Moreau will be in the NJ/NY area. He will be celebrating the following Masses.
Tuesday, June 27th, 7:00 pm Mass
St. Anthony of Padua Oratory
West Orange, NJ
Wednesday, June 28th, 6:00 pm Mass
Holy Innocents Church
New York, NY
Following the Mass and novena, Canon Moreau will give a presentation in the parish hall about his work on the island of Mauritius.
************
The Island of Mauritius lies in the Indian Ocean, east of the big island of Madagascar on the east coast of Africa and south of the Seychelles. Once part of the British Empire, it has remained a French and Creole speaking independent country. Mauritius is known for its natural beauty, pristine waters, luxurious hotels, and is in fact a first-class tourist and honeymoon destination. The flip side of it is unfortunately a great material and moral poverty – prostitution, drug problems and a lack of education.
The Catholic Church is on the forefront of social problems in a multi-religious and multicultural society: 51% are Hindus, 30% Catholics and Christians and 17% Muslims. However, Blessed Father Jacques Laval, a French Holy Ghost missionary priest beatified by Saint John Paul II in 1979 is seen as the saint and father of the whole Mauritian nation, regardless of religion.
The Bishop there, His Eminence Maurice Piat, was created a Cardinal by Pope Francis in October 2016. In August 2016, he had invited the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest to serve in his diocese of Port- Louis. Canon Jean Marie Moreau was sent to take care of the pastoral needs of the sick at the civil hospital in the capital and two private clinics, as well as to serve the newly organized Latin Mass community.

What is the Roman Rite? Today, the talk is of “Ordinary” and “Extraordinary” forms, the Novus Ordo Mass and the Traditional Mass. How did this dichotomy arise and what is its basis? And what will be the future of this dual path – confrontation or “mutual enrichment”? Or was Fr. Gelineau right when he claimed that the Roman Rite was “destroyed”?
(Prof. Kwasniewski’s new book Noble Beauty, Transcendent Holiness: Why the Modern Age Needs the Mass of Ages will be available for sale during the evening, and the author will be glad to sign copies.)
