(Above) The “Old Cathedral” of St. Patrick’s – in the process of restoration.
Today there took place a pilgrimage of parishioners of Holy Innocents Church to the Church of the Most Precious Blood. This has been designated as having a “door of mercy” for the Archdiocese.
Msgr. Sakano, the pastor of Old St. Patrick’s, talked about the restoration project.
“A lot more people than expected.”
There followed a tour of the crypt.
The group of pilgrims then assembled to head south to the “Shrine of the Most Precious Blood,” which is joined with Old St. Patrick’s since “Making all Things New.”
Solemn Vespers followed.
(Above and below) This church, just steps away from the chaos of Little Italy and Canal Street, is a quiet sanctuary of Catholic devotions – both those of Italian cities and villages and those known throughout the Church. A relic of St Anthony of Padua is coming next week!

On Saturday July 16th, at 12 noon there will be a Solemn Pontifical Mass celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church (259 Oliver Street) in Newark NJ.
The celebrant will be Most Rev. Arthur J. Serratelli, Bishop of the Diocese of Paterson.

For the first time since Vatican II, on Saturday, June 4, 2016, at Holy Face Monastery, Clifton, New Jersey, a Solemn High Mass with Gregorian chant was celebrated in honor of Our Lady of Sacro Monte of Novi Velia, Salerno, at her shrine.
(Above) Holy Face monastery is a treasury of Italian saints and devotions, both inside the monastery chapel and outside in a number of separate shrines. From the monastery grounds a visitor has a magnificent view of New York City – this day largely obscured by the summer-like haze.
(Above and below) The Madonna del Sacro Monte: a devotion of the Cilento region near Salerno, Italy. Love for the Madonna of Sacro Monte was carried to the United States by Cilentano immigrants who arrived in the United States around 1900. In Jersey City, where many of them settled, an annual devotion was started. In the late 1960s the devotees from Jersey City moved their celebration to Holy Face Monastery in Clifton, New Jersey. At the Monastery they constructed an outdoor shrine to the Madonna and brought a small statue for veneration.
The annual celebration at Holy Face Monastery ended in 1980. It was revived in 2012 by Cilentani and their descendants in New Jersey.
(Above and below) Mass was celebrated in an open chapel consecrated to this devotion.

On Saturday, June 11, 2016, a group Holy Innocents of parishioners will go on pilgrimage to Old St. Patrick’s Cathedral for the Year of Mercy. The doors of The Shrine of the Most Precious Blood (merged with Old St. Patrick’s) have been designated Doors of Mercy.
Immediately after the 1PM Mass at Holy Innocents on that Saturday, the group will meet outside of Holy Innocents and take the train to Old St. Patrick’s. We will aim to arrive there at 2:30PM. The group will be received by the Rector, Msgr. Donald Sakano (who used to be Pastor at Holy Innocents). The parishioners will then get a tour of the recent renovations and be led in prayer for the Year of Mercy.
At 3:30PM, the group will walk over to Most Precious Blood where the Holy Doors (of Mercy) are located for the indulgences for the Year of Mercy — the Shrine is about 5-6 blocks away.
Finally, at 4PM, newly-ordained Fr. Jon Tveit will celebrate traditional Vespers at the Shrine Church of the Most Precious Blood.
